Everything you need to know about Frequence
What is Frequence? +
Frequence is the tool you use before you open Spotify. You describe exactly how you feel — in plain words, not genre tags — and our AI builds you a fresh playlist for that specific moment. Think of it like Google Maps for music: it figures out what you want to hear, then you play it on whatever platform you love.
Is Frequence free? +
Yes! The free plan gives you 3 playlist generations per day with 8 songs each. Upgrading to Vibe Pass ($4.99/mo) unlocks unlimited generations, 15-song playlists, saves, and no ads. Soul Pass ($9.99/mo) adds collab playlists, Apple Music, sleep modes, and more.
Spotify already has AI playlists — how is this different? +
Spotify's AI is great but it requires Premium, years of listening history, and only works inside Spotify. Frequence works for anyone instantly — no account needed to start. More importantly, Frequence understands full emotional sentences like "I just got promoted but I'm terrified I'll fail" — not just genre tags. It also builds emotional arc playlists that take you somewhere over time (Sad to Hopeful, Heartbreak to Glow Up), and has the Frequency Wall — a live feed of what the whole world is feeling right now. Currently all songs link to Spotify. Apple Music and YouTube Music support is coming in a future update.
How does the AI work? +
We use Claude (by Anthropic), one of the most advanced AI models available. You describe your mood and Claude recommends real songs that match that specific emotional feeling — not just genre or tempo, but the actual emotional texture of the moment. The more playlists you save, the more it learns your personal taste.
Do you actually play music? +
No — Frequence recommends songs and links them directly to Spotify search. We don't host or stream audio. Think of us as an AI DJ that tells you exactly what to play, then you play it on Spotify. Apple Music and YouTube Music links are coming in a future update.
What is the Frequency Wall? +
The Frequency Wall is our anonymous public mood board. People share one sentence about how they're feeling right now. It's a place to feel less alone, discover what mood the world is in, and click any post to generate a playlist for that vibe. All posts are anonymous and moderated.
What are Emotional Journey Playlists? +
These are curated playlist arcs that take you on an emotional journey — like "Sad to Hopeful" which starts with songs for raw feelings and gradually transitions to uplifting music. They're designed to help you process emotions, not just match them. Nobody else offers this.
How does personalization work? +
Vibe Pass and Soul Pass subscribers get AI that learns their taste over time. The more playlists you save, the more the AI understands your favorite artists, the songs you've already heard, and your most common moods. Every generation gets more tuned to you specifically.
Can I cancel my subscription? +
Yes, anytime. Go to your account settings and cancel. Your Pro features stay active until the end of your current billing period, then your account reverts to the free plan. No cancellation fees ever.
Is there a free trial? +
Yes — new subscribers get a 7-day free trial on both Vibe Pass and Soul Pass. You won't be charged until the trial ends. Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing.
How old do I need to be? +
You must be at least 13 years old to use Frequence. You must be 18 or older to purchase a subscription (required by our payment processor, Stripe). We take children's privacy seriously and do not knowingly collect data from under-13s.
Is my data private? +
Yes. We never sell your data. Your journal entries are only visible to you. Mood entries are sent to Anthropic's AI to generate playlists but are not used to train AI models. All data is encrypted. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
I'm going through something difficult. Can Frequence help? +
Music can be a powerful emotional tool and we are here for that. However, Frequence is not a mental health service. If you are in crisis please reach out to real support: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line). You matter.
